Fun Activities in Perus Arequipa
Known as the "White City," Arequipa is Peru's largest colonial city and possibly its most beautiful as well. You will undoubtedly be enticed to discover all the top activities in Arequipa by its distinctive, European-inspired architecture and its charming street corners.
You will initially feel as though you have traveled across the Atlantic to a European city when you arrive at the historic city of Arequipa. Arequipa feels very different from all the other Peruvian cities we have been to because of its Spanish architecture, tidy parks, and snow-capped mountains.
The primary characteristic that sets this city apart from others in Peru is the abundance of silac, a volcanic rock that originates from the bases of the three nearby volcanoes: El Misit, El Chachani, and Pichu Pichu. Arequipa has earned the moniker "The White City" because of the powdery texture of the granite.
There are so many things to do in Arequipa, Peru, including enjoy the craft beer scene on one of the charming roofs, go on an exciting day excursion to the world's deepest canyon, people watch on the charming plaza, or climb one of the nearby iconic 6,000-meter volcanoes.

Wandering around Arequipa on foot is the most authentic way to experience the city as a local would. One of our favorite ways to really see a new area is to go on a walking tour, and Guru Walk's Free Arequipa Tour provides daily walks beginning at 9:30 a.m.
-
Your guide will meet you in the tiny passageway known as Pasaje la Catedral, which is located behind the Cathedral Basilica (see map). And when you see the red signs, you'll know you're at the correct area.
-
From there, the guides will take you to the oldest neighborhood in Arequipa (where you can find amazing craft beer; more on that later), the highest viewpoint in the city, Tristán del Pozo, a traditional colonial house where you can admire the baroque architecture, and many other stops that will show you the city like you've never seen it before.
-
Although the program and guides are fully gratuitous, the walking excursions are. Depending on how much you liked the tour, you can pay whichever much you're willing to.

The Ideal Time To Go To Arequipa
In contrast to many other parts of Peru, Arequipa has nearly year-round perfect weather. Because of its proximity to the equator, it experiences both wet and dry seasons.
Arequipa's wet season lasts from January to March, so you should schedule your trip to avoid these times. Aim for the dry season if you intend to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu during your vacation as it may be closed due to rain.
When visiting Arequipa, the dry season (May to September) is the best time to go. This time of year is ideal for touring the White City since it offers pleasant temperatures, sunny skies, and crisp nights. This season, any month is fantastic, although July and August should be avoided for less crowds.
